About the Migration
Between 1948 and the early 1970s, around 850,000 Mizrahi Jews left, fled, or were expelled from their ancestral homes across the Middle East and North Africa. This mass migration followed the creation of the State of Israel and rising anti-Jewish sentiment in many Arab countries.
These migrations represent one of the largest population transfers of the 20th century, fundamentally transforming both the communities left behind and Israeli society. The interactive map above allows you to explore the timeline of these migrations, showing how different communities moved at different times in response to various historical events and pressures.
